The app opens, but shows no function
Switch to the Config page (animated gear icon at the bottom left) and check if the "machine" at the top left is 'working'. If it's standing still and showing a red dot, the "metronome_core" hasn't started or isn't connected.
1.) Check if 'metronome_core.exe' is being blocked by your firewall. Add an exception (Windows usually asks during the first start).
2.) Try restarting your computer / reinstalling the app.
3.) When reinstalling GIT-O-MATIK, it can happen that the available drivers aren't displayed during the very first start. If so, just restart again and, if necessary, unplug and replug your external interface.
The app opens, but some functions aren't working
Here is another source of error. It manifests in a way that, for example, the Click-O-Matic is running, but neither the light nor the trainer are working. In this case, the internal UDP ports that allow Git-O-Matik and metronome_core.exe to communicate with each other are blocked.
Some security suites, especially Norton, can block local communication between GIT-O-MATIK and the Metronome Core. GIT-O-MATIK uses local UDP ports on 127.0.0.1, specifically 5005 for beat signals and 5006 for control commands. This communication does not leave the computer. So you don't need to share anything "outward," just open the ports within your computer.
First start - Metronome is making strange noises
Under certain circumstances, the ClickOMatic might output strange sounds or no sound at all after the first start. This is because the drivers found are written during the very first start but (depending on your system's speed) haven't been loaded in the ClickoMatic yet. The same applies to the microphone recording in the TuneOMatic and the CheckOMatic.
Everything should work correctly from the second start onwards.
How can I close the Config screen?
It's simple: use the animated gear icon at the bottom left to go into the Config screen and also to go back.
How do I calibrate my system?

1.) Select microphone/speakers in the Config screen and click "Set it"
2.) Open the CHECK-O-MATIC
3.) Set the selector switch in the CHECK-O-MATIC to "CAL"
4.) Place your microphone directly in front of your speaker (diaphragm facing the speaker!)
5.) Press the "Start/Stop" button at the bottom right
6.) The system will now play 12 clicks, which are measured by the microphone. The radar must show an orange dot in the center (if you see rings - turn it up!).
7.) Repeat the process (and increase the volume if necessary) until the system shows a message saying "Latency = XXX ms".
Note: If your system shows more than 300ms of latency, working with the Check-O-Matic doesn't make sense, as errors due to system inaccuracies will inevitably creep in at such high values.
How do I perfect the accuracy of the CHECK-O-MATIC?

After successful calibration: Place your microphone directly in front of your speaker and start the CLICK-O-MATIC. On the CHECK-O-MATIC radar screen, you will now see green dots (the original click) and light blue dots ("heard" via the microphone). If these deviate significantly from each other, you can fine-tune the green dots using the nose gear icon on the right side. Warning: the light blue pings must never be drawn BEFORE the green pings!
System latency too high - what can I do?
On Windows, you can choose WDM-KS (caution, it's very picky with hardware selection) or WASAPI as the driver (in the Conf screen). If that still results in latency values near (or over) 300ms, you should consider getting an audio interface. Depending on the quality, you can achieve fantastic latency values down to 5ms.
This works in Windows 10/11 via ASIO (driver selection), and on Linux or Mac with the native drivers (CoreAudio, Jack, etc.).
Of course, you can also try the free "ASIO4ALL" on WIN10/11 before ordering an interface.
Is my Windows with an ARM64 processor supported?
No, unfortunately not. The ARM processor hasn't really caught on in the Windows market yet, so many components of GIT-O-MATIK can currently only be produced with massive programming effort.
Which Windows version do I need?
GIT-O-MATIK was developed for Windows 10/11 with Intel Core processors.
Will GIT-O-MATIK be available for other systems?
Yes! There is already a 1:1 version for Linux (Intel) and now also as MacUniversal (Intel & Silicon processors). Take a look under DOWNLOADS.
The Tune-O-Matic isn't working

Yes, probably because the pitch detection algorithm "toni" isn't hearing anything. Just set the input volume correctly using the fader in the Check-O-Matic, and the tuner will run!
Unfortunately, we've found that the Tune-O-Matic doesn't work correctly with some (cheap) microphones. Please use a high-quality microphone without filters or noise cancellation (podcast mic, etc.).
How can I adjust my scale length with the Tune-O-Matic?

This is done in the Chromatic Mode of the Tune-O-Matic. You tune an open string precisely to "12 o'clock." Then, while the red "Lock-LED" to the right of the note display is still glowing red, you press the Space bar on your keyboard to activate the manual lock. The LED changes to green until you release it with another press of "Space." In manual lock, you can accurately display the locked note and its octave (12th fret). If the needle swings to the right, you need to make the string longer at the bridge / tremolo. If it swings to the left, the part of the string between the 12th fret and the bridge / tremolo is too flat, meaning it's too long. Got it?
The Tune-O-Matic doesn't recognize all notes

This might be because your guitar signal is distorted (or you're playing with a heavily distorted sound). The cleaner the sound, the easier it is for 'toni' to recognize the notes. If you're already playing with a clean sound, reduce the input volume (Check-O-Matic, the gain fader, or of course in the MIXER on the Config screen).
The Check-O-Matic recognizes too many notes

The Check-O-Matic has two types of note detection: Staccato (rabbit, default setting) and Legato (snail). If you're practicing muted, short notes, you don't need to change anything; if you're playing long notes and letting them ring out, try the "snail" to get fewer false triggers.
By the way, this is an excellent way to check and improve your string muting. Select the "Staccato" mode (rabbit) and you'll immediately see how precise your muting (palm mute) is.
How do I check what GIT-O-MATIK is actually "hearing"?

Switch to the Check-O-Matic and press the red record button to the left of the radar. Now, six seconds of your input stream will be recorded. Once the recording is finished, the green play button to the right of the radar becomes available, and you can hear what your mic / input device is actually "hearing." The recording is automatically deleted after leaving the screen.
Virtual sound - how can I make my guitar audible?
Yes! Maybe you're working with a virtual guitar sound system and have plugged your guitar directly into the interface. To make sure you hear something, we've built monitoring into the Config screen. At the top right, you can switch to Mono/Stereo/Off to monitor your input. Any delays that occur are due to your system; unfortunately, we have no influence over that. Using an audio interface is recommended!
I changed the language - no change
Some of the translations only work after restarting GIT-O-MATIK. For example, the international "B" will only be displayed as "H" in the TuneOMatic after a restart (and vice versa).
Which Linux version is supported?
GIT-O-MATIK requires Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or newer (glibc ≥ 2.35). Recommended: 24.04 or 25.10.
How to check your glibc version:
ldd --version | head -n1 # shows the glibc version (must be >= 2.35)
How to check your distribution/version:
cat /etc/os-release | head
If your system is too old (upgrade):
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade # Upgrade to the next Ubuntu version
Linux: Which audio stacks are supported?
PipeWire (recommended) as well as PulseAudio/ALSA. For USB interfaces, libasound2 is usually required.
My audio is running, but nothing can be heard / wrong device selected?
-
Open the Config screen in GIT-O-MATIK, re-select input/output devices.
-
Click Apply.
-
Restart the app once.
Linux: Check audio status
pactl info | grep 'Default Sample Rate'
pw-top | head -n 15 # Overview of active streams (PipeWire)
Linux: "spinning needle" in the TuneOMatic
The system automatically resamples inputs to 48 kHz. For exotic devices:
• Reconnect cable/USB interface
• Re-select and apply input device in the Config screen
• Restart PipeWire:
systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber
Linux: Where is my configuration (config.json) located?
~/.config/GIT-O-MATIK/config.json
(Override possible via GOM_CONFIG_PATH or GOM_CONFIG_DIR.)
The Tune-O-Matic display always shows me the same note
This can have two causes:
A) You are in Fixed Mode (switch positions 1-6). Here, the large display shows the target note (depending on the selected tuning) that you need to tune your string to (the small display on the left shows what 'toni' actually hears).
B) You are in Chromatic Mode and are being too impatient. The "cool down" phase in this mode is deliberately kept a bit longer (this makes tuning acoustic instruments easier). Tune your string, then create a brief silence until the display shows "--" again. Only then tune the next string.
The Tune-O-Matic shows impossible note values
There are various causes here as well:
1.) Your microphone is too quiet (so it doesn't hear enough)
2.) Your microphone is too loud (this creates harmonic distortion)
3.) Your microphone is positioned incorrectly (make sure to always turn the diaphragm of your mic towards the guitar).
Especially with large-diaphragm microphones, you should check for axial or radial positioning! When in doubt - most large-diaphragm microphones have a symbol printed on the "correct" side.
Is precise tuning in Tune-O-Matic difficult?
Unlike the "Speed Tuner XXL" (drop-down menu), the Tune-O-Matic is designed as a precision display with high inertia. This allows you (with the appropriate sensitivity) to tune 100% accurately - not just the open strings, but simply ALL notes on your fretboard. A very helpful function when learning notes or, for example, when tuning the guitar with a capo!
How can I select strings in Fixed Mode?
As soon as you switch to one of the Fixed modes (1-6), the "string selector" appears at the top center. There you select the string to be tuned - via mouse or via the number pad on your keyboard. "6" or "7" are the lowest (thickest) strings, 1 is the highest (thinnest) string.
Where do I enter my registration key?
Go to the Config screen (gear icon at the bottom left). Clicking on the medallion at the bottom right opens the ABOUT dialog. You can enter your key there.
Can I extend my 7-day trial?
Yes! You can get a 21-day trial key for free in the shop. After that, however, you must purchase a "real" key.
Are there keyboard shortcuts in GIT-O-MATIK?
Yes! Throughout the app, the F5 - F6 - F7 - F8 keys are used to switch between modules.
• TuneOMatic only (Chromatic Mode): "Space" bar performs a manual lock for adjusting scale length.
• Tune-O-Matic (Fixed Mode): here you can use the number keys 1-7 to select the respective string directly.
• In the Cab-O-Matic, you can use 1-4 to switch between loaded IRs.
• In the Check-O-Matic, you open the manual latency input with CTRL+Alt+"L".
Cab-O-Matic and Play-O-Matic
Can I play my real guitar amp with cabinet IRs through the computer?
Yes, that's the idea behind it. The Cab-O-Matic was designed exactly for that.
Do I need a DAW or a plugin host for CAB-O-MATIC?
No, GIT-O-MATIK with all its modules is a standalone app.
Which output of my guitar amp can I use?
The Line Out, FX Send, or PreAmp Out. Never the Speaker Out!
Can I connect the Speaker Out of my tube amp directly to the audio interface?
No, because the output power of your Speaker Out can destroy or severely damage your interface. With tube amps, the speaker load or load box prescribed by the manufacturer must also remain connected.
Can I load my own cabinet IRs into GIT-O-MATIK?
Yes, of course. The Cab-O-Matic processes all IRs at 48kHz, mono.
How many IRs can I compare at the same time?
You can load 4 IRs into the Cab-O-Matic and activate them with the control knob or keys 1-4.
What is the difference between CAB-O-MATIC and an amp modeler?
An amp modeler additionally emulates or captures the preamp, power amp, and their non-linear behavior. CAB-O-MATIC, on the other hand, doesn't replace your amp but processes your existing amp/preamp signal with a cabinet IR.
Is the dynamics of my analog preamp preserved?
The IR convolution itself is linear and adds no amp modeling or additional dynamic compression. As a result, the dynamics of your analog preamp are largely preserved. Our testers so far describe the response as particularly direct and close to the playing experience.
Can I use CAB-O-MATIC and CHECK-O-MATIC at the same time?
Sure! Your input signal runs in parallel into both modules. This means you always have the pure preamp signal available at the Check-O-Matic (and also at the Tune-O-Matic). We recommend turning the gain down as much as possible for tuning and use in the radar, as distorted sounds reveal a lot of harmonic overtones. And neither tuners nor pick detection like that very much.
Can I play along to backing tracks with PLAY-O-MATIC?
Sure - load backing track -> leave Play-O-Matic open -> open Cab-O-Matic and get started. You control the volumes centrally via the new mixer module on the Config screen.
Can I loop difficult parts and play them back slower?
Yes, that's exactly what the control knob in the Play-O-Matic with preset speed levels is for. We think the algorithm used sounds significantly better than in many other systems.
Why is PLAY-O-MATIC practical with ASIO?
Because playback and guitar signal run via the same ASIO stream. Depending on the ASIO driver, external players or browsers cannot easily use the same audio output in parallel.
What is TCI – True Cabinet Imaging?
The name says it all - this is the process we developed that performs measurements with great care and uses the resulting IRs "unvarnished." No smoothing, no "estimated" curves, but the simple, measured truth with the full frequency range of your system / interface.
Where can I get free cabinet IRs?
You can find IRs in many places on the internet, with varying quality and standards. The impulse responses we generated with TCI CAN BE OBTAINED HERE.
